About Us

Development Team
The short course development process was carried out by a team of educators with expertise in Education for Sustainability: Kate Minnock, Jerrieann Sullivan, Hedda Dick, Sian Cowman and Nancy Serrano. The authors of the specification are Kate Minnock, Jerrieann Sullivan and Hedda Dick. The Educators for Sustainability partnership, formed by Kate Minnock and Jerrieann Sullivan, formally led the process.
The development team came together around a shared aim: to produce a course that is guided and informed by the views of young people and support their demand for empowering education and a sustainable future.
The course development process included consultation with youth groups, teachers, and experts in pedagogy and education for sustainability.

Development Process
Created by a partnership of educators, Educators for Sustainability, in Irish Secondary Schools in 2021, the course emerged from an opportunity to engage in meaningful climate action education through a short course format. In consultation with teachers, students, and Climate Action/Justice experts, it was designed to empower students with an understanding of the root causes of climate change and the skills to help shape a better future. Unique to this course is the direct involvement of a Student Advisory Group, alongside a Teacher Advisory Group and Expert Advisory Group, ensuring that students play a key role in its development.
Three supporting organizations—The Irish Second-Level Students' Union, Fridays for Future Ireland, and the Students’ Climate Action Network—also provided valuable input. The course specification and assessment guidelines, developed in line with NCCA guidelines, are available for download here as a PDF.
Funding for the CASC pilot programme is provided by the Sunflower Charitable Foundation through
